12 oz al fresco Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage

1 Tablespoon Oil, olive, extra virgin

1 Each Onion, fresh, med about 1 cup

1 Each Granny Smith Apples diced 1/4"

1 1/4 Cup Cheese, cheddar, low sod, shredded

8 Each Buttermilk Biscuits

1 Each Eggs, large, raw

1 Tablespoon Water, tap beat egg with water for eggwash

1 Tablespoon Seeds, sesame

1 Each Cooking Spray, olive, extra virgin, 1/3 sec spray

Instructions
  • Preheat Oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Coat a medium non-stick saute pan with olive oil and brown Sweet Apple sausage links on both sides. Slice links on bias 1/4" thick.
  • Return pan to stove and saute onion until soft 2 - 3 minutes, add apples and saute for an additional 2 minutes.
  • Add the chicken sausage slices and cheese to the pan and mix until well blended and cheese is melted. Remove from heat.
  • Remove buttermilk biscuits from tube onto a lightly floured surface, with a rolling pin, roll biscuits flat into 5 - 5 1/2" disks.
  • Fill biscuit disks with sausage filling (about 1/2 cup each), and egg wash edges of dough. Pull dough over the top of the filling to create a turnover shape, crimp the edges. Place on a cookie sheet (sprayed with pan spray).
  • Eggwash tops and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake for 18 - 20 minutes until dough is golden brown.
