Sweet & Savory Waffles

"You’ll have these waffles on the table in less than 15 minutes. I like that incorporating the chicken sausage right into the batter gives these waffles a nice protein boost. Which also makes this the perfect kid-friendly recipe."

Ingredients

2 al fresco Sweet Apple Chicken Sausages, diced1

½ cup all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon sugar

1 teaspoon dried sage

1 large egg

1 1/2 cups milk

1/3 cup vegetable oil

2 apples, sliced

Maple syrup for serving

Directions:

  • 1Combine flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and sage in a medium mixing bowl, whisk until incorporated.
  • 2In a separate bowl, combine egg, milk, and vegetable oil. Slowly pour wet ingredients into dry until just incorporated, do not overmix.
  • 3Spray waffle maker with non-stick spray, pour batter and scatter cut up chicken sausage over the batter. Cook until golden brown.
  • 4Serve with apple slices and pure maple syrup as desired.
