Sweet & Savory Chicken Sausage Sandwich

"This elevated twist on a grilling classic brings together our Caramelized Onion & Cheddar chicken sausage with a sweet fig jam, tangy blue cheese, caramelized onions, and fresh arugula for the perfect balance of savory and sweet in every bite. "

Ingredients

3 links Al Fresco Caramelized Onion & Cheddar Chicken Sausage

2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced

¼ cup blue cheese, crumbled

¼ cup fresh arugula

2 tbsp fig jam

3 whole split top brioche buns

2 tbsp olive oil

Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

  • 1Prepare the caramelized onion: 1) Heat a large pan or skillet over medium heat; add the olive oil. 2) Once the oil is hot, add the sliced onions and stir to coat. 3) Reduce the heat to low or medium low. 4) Stir the onions every 5-10 minutes to prevent burning. 5) After about 20 minutes, the onions will start to soften and turn golden. 6) Continue cooking for another 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally; remove from heat and reserve for sandwich
  • 2Grill or sauté the sausage in a skillet over medium heat, turning occasionally, for 7-9 minutes; set aside
  • 3Place the sausage in the bun and top with the blue cheese, caramelized onions, and arugula
  • 4Add hot water to the fig jam to get a drizzle consistency then drizzle over the top of each sandwich
  • 5Serve immediately and enjoy!
